Next NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler resigns contenders Craig Bellamy coaching
By Charles Goodsir
The New South Wales Rugby League NSWRL have officially ruled out Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy as a contender to replace Brad Fittler as coach of the NSW Blues.
NRL premiership winner Michael Maguire is now the preferred candidate to take over the role.
Fittler announced his resignation last week after six years in charge of the Blues, and Bellamy was immediately installed as the favourite to replace him.
However, the NSWRL has now confirmed that Bellamy will not be considered for the role, with Maguire emerging as the frontrunner.
Maguire has a strong track record in rugby league, having won the NRL premiership with South Sydney in 2014.
He has also coached the Wigan Warriors to victory in the Super League Grand Final in 2016 and 2018.
Maguire is expected to be appointed as the new NSW Blues coach in the coming weeks.
